The Scripture Memory system can import verses from a text file:

  1. The verse card file must have the the format shown below.
  2. Select the name of the text file using the [Browse] button and then click import.
  3. Existing verse card file with the selected name will be overwritten after a warning has been given..
  4. The verse card file must be a text file with a .txt extension.
  5. One line per verse. No blank lines or comment lines. Text in curly brackets {} will be removed.
  6. A '*' (star) is translated as a hard return and is used optionally for formatting.
  7. The '.' (period) after the verse number indicates that it is the start of a new verse card.
  8. Imported verse cards do not all have to be from the same book and chapter.
  9. Book names must be 2 or 3 character names recognized by the system.  See Book names
  10. Do not use names letters in the verse number (i.e., do not say PH 1:7a).
  11. Verse cards will be truncated after 2000 characters.
  12. If you decide to import a file of more than 100 verse cards, you will notice the procedure slowing down as it gets closer to the end. Do not worry about this.
  13. The system is not designed to work efficiently if you put more than 100 verse cards in a single file.  It will work fine, but the will be slow to start and get around in the program

Example Number 1 will create a  file with four verse cards in it.  PH 1:1-2; PH 1:3-6; PH 1:7-8; PH 1:9-11.  Notice the period placed after the verse number on verses 1,3,7 and 9.  Notice also the * placed in verse 2.  This will be translated as a hard return when the verses are imported and is used to make the verses more readable.

PH 1:1. Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, ** To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers {Traditionally bishops} and deacons:
PH 1:2 ** Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
PH 1:3. I thank my God every time I remember you.
PH 1:4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy
PH 1:5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
PH 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
PH 1:7. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.
PH 1:8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
PH 1:9. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,
PH 1:10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ,
PH 1:11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.

Example Number 2 will create a card file with 11 verse cards in it.  The difference is that the periods after the verse numbers have been removed.
